Who Am I?
Born and raised in North Carolina, I always figured I would attend North Carolina State University. NC State has always been my school; I cannot even count the number of football games I have gone to at Carter-Finley Stadium cheering on the Pack with my best friend. When my older sister started at NCSU three years ago, it seemed even more likely. Attending a prestigious university such as this has always been a goal of mine, and I have made every effort in my academics to make that happen.
During my four years at West Johnston High School, I have always strived to do my best. I always take courses that will challenge me because I wish to make the most of my education. I have an excellent academic and extracurricular record, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average while also being an active member of art club, FFA, and the National Honors Society. Due to my hard work and determination, I received the honor of participating as a marshal at graduation my junior year.
As the president of art club this year, I am in a great capacity to develop my leadership skills. I have always been quite shy, and this has really brought me out of my shell; it is a new experience for me, and I have truly come to enjoy it. Being involved in art club has also helped me develop a stronger sense of creativity which has helped me not only in art but also with everyday problem-solving.
In FFA, I am a member of the Floriculture team where my team and I have an opportunity to compete against other schools in the state. My ability to work well with others has certainly grown during my time on the team. Also, I have been able to establish my voice within a team setting and can now communicate more effectively with others.
In the National Honors Society, I volunteer around the community. Just last year, our group helped a local church distribute food to people in need and also organized a highway clean-up. I take pleasure in volunteering outside of school, as well. For example, I volunteered at the Cary Lazy Daze Festival my sophomore year by helping artisans unload and display their crafts. I participate in these activities because I love meeting new people, and the gratitude I receive from the people I assist is well worth it. I also enjoy seeing people from many diverse backgrounds unite in a common goal to help others.
All of these experiences and opportunities have shaped who I am. I have been able to successfully juggle the clubs I take part in, my schoolwork, and my personal activities. They have molded me into the person I am today, and I know that through college, I will be able to expand my mindset and experiences even more and have an even greater impact on those around me.
